The International Style is the time-honored standard for competitive ballroom dancing or DanceSport. The Ballroom dances include Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, and Quickstep.
The International Style was developed by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) after the work of Alex Moore and first published in 1948. The ballroom dances are known for elegance and strictness of style. Dancers are required to remain in a formal ballroom dance hold known as closed position.
The International Latin Style came some time later and includes Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive. These dances are governed by strict rules and demanding technique that trains dancers to use each muscle group to its maximum.
At Champion Ballroom Academy you can learn International Style Ballroom & Latin Dancing with ease from our experienced instructors. Many of our International Style Dance Teachers are former competition champions themselves. With a coaching staff of champions from Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, the list of top level coaches is numerous. You will see right away why we are called Champion Ballroom.

American Style Smooth & Rhythm
The American Style of Ballroom dancing is unique to the United States and Canada. This style is divided into two categories — Smooth and Rhythm.
American Style Smooth Dancing consists of the dances of Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Viennese Waltz. These dances differ in both performance and technique from the International Style. The primary difference is that dancers in American Style are allowed to separate from the traditional ballroom hold and explore other dance positions and choreographies. This gives dancers a great deal more liberty to dance side-by-side or to experiment with turns, dips, drops and other exhibition type elements.
The American Rhythm Syllabus is comprised of Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero and Mambo. American Rumba is known for being much quicker than its International style counterpart, whle the American Cha Cha is slower and slightly less complex. With the inclusion of Swing and Mambo, this style gives dancers a feel for dancing as it was in the 1950’s and 1960’s with a feel reminiscent of Rock n’ Roll and the 1960’s era Latin Combo’s
The American Style of dancing is very convenient for social learning and for parties. Champion Ballroom Academy is proud to use the DVIDA syllabus to teach American Style. In fact, the DVIDA Silver Syllabus for American Smooth dancing was writting right here in Champion Ballroom.
